A new government scheme to install free charging point for electric vehicles is underway across Scotland.
EV owners can receive 100% funding to install domestic charging points under the ChargePlace Scotland scheme, formerly called Plugged in Places.
So far 50 vehicle owners have expressed an interest including drivers in Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth and Glasgow as well as in more remote locations such as Shetland and Arisaig.
The scheme is run by the Energy Savings Trust with installations carried out by energy company SSE.
David Densley, SSE’s head of sustainable transport said: ”There are currently only around 200 registered electric vehicles in Scotland so it is still relatively early days for this new technology.
“But the interest received so far is really positive and with developments continually being made in EV affordability, performance and infrastructure, matched with the country’s carbon reduction targets, the uptake in these vehicles is only going to increase.”
SSE estimates that around 100 charging points will be installed by the end of the year.
It said EV can cost around 3p a mile to operate at standard electricity rates, with a full charge working out at around £3.
