Rosatom are set to take a 34% stake in Finnish nuclear operator Fennovoima after agreeing a deal to build the country’s new £5billion nuclear plant.
The Russian firm will build the Hanhikivi-1 plant and provide it with two reactors.
Rosatom beat competition from Areva and Toshiba, who had also been in talks with Fennovoima over the project.
“We expect the contract for the new plant to be signed by the end of this year,” said Fennovoima in a statement.
“We are now discussing Rosatom Overseas taking over 34% of Fennovoima share capital.”
This will be the third nuclear plant in Finland with work due to start in 2015, and a completion date of 2020.
One of the country’s existing plants, Loviisa, is already using two Russian reactors.
