Renewable energy consultancy SgurrEnergy is to provide monitoring and analysis services for the first phase of a new 400MW wind farm in Ethiopia.
The Terra project at Debre Birhan, 75 miles north of Addis Ababab, marks the first time a US energy firm has moved into the African nation’s renewables sector.
The Glasgow-based Wood Group subsidiary will provide a 12-month wind measurement monitoring campaign as part of the feasibility testing on the project.
“The Ethiopia Wind Project is a real milestone for the expansion of renewable energy development, not only in Ethiopia, but in East Africa as a whole,” said SgurrEnergy principal consultant Gareth Brown.
“We are proud to have been selected by Terra to work on this landmark project which will create local jobs and help support sustainable economic growth within the country.”
