Swedish furniture giant Ikea is to step into the renewable energy market after confirming it will start selling solar panels at its stores.
The move follows a pilot project at its Lakeside store near London, where it has been trialing sales of photovoltaic panels.
The Hanergy panels will be rolled out across the company’s 17 UK stores over the next few months, starting with the Southampton store today, with a standard 18-panel package costing £5700 including consultation and installation for customers.
“We know that our customers want to live more sustainability and we hope working with Hanergy to make solar panels affordable and easily available helps them do just that,” said the company’s UK head of sustainability, Joanna Yarrow.
The company said it had sold an average of one solar package a day during its trial in London.
