Energy giant Gazprom is to buy hydroelectric power from a Scots hydroelectric facility after striking a deal with provider Infinis.
The Russian giant’s business energy supplier Gazprom Energy will take 17MW a year from 10 hydroelectric sites across the UK, including the Duror intake south of Loch Leven.
Power will also come from Barton Lock in Greater Manchester, Beeston Weir in Nottingham and the Elan Valley in South Wales, among other sites.
It also allows Infinis to trade the renewable obligation and levy exemption certificates tied to the power purchased by Gazprom.
The deal, effective from this month, follows from Gazprom’s relationship with Infinis to buy power from its landfill gas sites two years ago.
“This agreement strengthens our relationship with one of the UK’s leading renewable energy generators,” said Gazprom clean energy manager Andrew Morris.
The deal comes as Infinis confirmed Christopher Cole as a director of the renewable energy firm.
