Scottish Water is to power its waste treatment facility on Skye with three new wind turbines as part of a drive to green energy.
The three Evance turbines will be installed at the Broadford facility, with a further three being installed at the water treatment works on Raasay, and a final three at Portree next month.
“Scottish Water is looking to take advantage of natural wind resources at some of our sites to reduce our energy bill and, in turn, the cost of providing essential services to our customers.” said Scottish Water project manager Eddie Johnstone.
The water firm has already turned to wind energy on Orkney and the Western Isles to power operations.
“These nine Evance turbines will make a significant difference to the running cost of the water treatment works as they will generate nearly 50% of the electricity needed to operate these services,” said Evance director Tim Sammon.
