Norwegian utility company Statkraft has signed a purchase agreement for electricity from two windfarms in Scotland and Northern England with their operator, RES.
The long-term deal, which can last up to 15 years, covers the provision of electricity from Aberdeenshire’s Meikle Carewe and Cumbria’s Tallentire wind farms.
The eighteen turbines across the two locations will have a combined capacity of 22MW and will generate an energy equivalent to the annual demands of close to 15,000 homes.
“This double PPA [power purchase agreement] deal with RES represents an exciting addition to Statkraft’s rapidly expanding portfolio of contracts with leading companies in the renewables sector,” said Tim Foster, head of renewable origination at Statkraft.
“Meikle Carewe and Tallentire wind farms underline the considerable growth opportunity for UK wind energy projects and we look forward to working with future partners looking for a viable alternative to the Big 6 with their PPA contracts”.
