Plans for a new data platform to support offshore wind operators have been given a £850,000 boost.
The Sparta system, launched last year by the Crown Estate and DNV GL Energy catapult, is aimed at improving performance of turbines by creating a database of anonymous data for users.
The system is initially aimed at UK projects, with support from RWE, Centria and SSE already pledged.
“With the largest base of operating turbines in the world, the UK offshore wind sector has an unrivalled knowledge base to draw on,” said Huub den Rooijen.
“Sparta creates a way for industry to use this to its strategic advantage, providing access to a wealth of information that will enable operators to better understand the performance of their wind farms and where there might be opportunities for cost reduction.”
The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult will fund and manage the system along with the National Renewable Energy Centre, with a pilot project running until March next year before full-scale roll-out.
