People with renewable heating systems in their homes must be ready to apply for government support under a new subsidy support scheme launching this spring, claims a leading accountant.
The domestic version of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is set to launch this spring, offering householders with renewable heat systems subsidy support for their installations.
This follows the non-domestic RHI scheme which has been around since November 2011.
Shirley Mathieson from accountant Saffery Champness says people who have already installed renewable heating systems ahead of the launch must be aware that they only have one year to lock into the subsidy scheme.
After the first 12 months of the scheme, it will only be open to new installations commissioned after the launch date.
“Those who were ahead of the curve and are already enjoying the benefit of heat from a qualifying renewable systems should be aware that there will only be a limited window for their applications to be processed,” said Ms Mathieson.
“Taking into account other potential considerations such as a Green Deal Assessment and meeting of certain Energy Performance Certificate criteria there may still be some work to do to make even a new system eligible.”
