The covers have been taken off a new renewables energy strategy for Scotland’s agricultural sector.
Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead said the strategy identified six key areas which would help the development of green energy on farms.
Those include securing community involvement and benefits from on-farm projects and providing skills and advice to help farmers develop schemes.
There is a commitment on planning and consents and in giving applicants advice and guidance. Grid connections have long been a thorny issue, but the strategy aims to make sure Scotland can benefit from the increased take up of renewable problem.
The strategy also outlines the finance available to assist projects and reaffirms the government’s pledge to support research and innovation.
Mr Lochhead said: “Farmers and crofters have access to our nation’s abundance of natural resources and are ideally placed to contribute towards Scotland’s low carbon economy.
“I’m confident that this strategy can help them introduce agri-renewable technologies best suited to local circumstances.”
