UK green power firm Renewable Energy Generation has extended its deal National Grid for the provision of short term operating reserve (STOR).
The deal struck by REG’s subsidiary REG Bio-Power covers a total of 26MW of reserve power from the company’s Whitemoor plant, which is due for completion later this year, along with the Bentwaters site in Suffolk and its facility in Leeds.
The deal will see the renewables group receive an availability payment for standing by during STOR periods and an utilisation payment for any power generated between April 2015 and March 2016.
“STOR will become increasingly important to the UK as ageing coal-fired power plant is closed under the Large Combustion Plant Directive thus potentially increasing system volatility,” said Andrew Whalley, REG chief executive.
“The addition of our new capacity at Whitemoor should ensure that REG Bio-Power makes a significant contribution to REG’s overall business”.
