EDF Energy Renewables has acquired the Barmoor windfarm project from Duke Energy and Statkraft UK.
The six-turbine project, located near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, has an expected capacity of 12MW and the power firm estimates it will meet the annual needs of approximately 6,400 homes once complete.
“We have ambitious plans to continue to grow our portfolio of onshore wind farms, through our own development activities and through acquisitions. This deal is consistent with that ambition and our ability to deliver new projects,” said Christian Egal, chief executive of EDF Energy Renewables.
“We are very keen to start construction at the site and will start liaising with the local community on our building plans as soon as possible.”
The sale will enable Statkraft UK to focus on the larger projects in its portfolio, Shimon Shoshani, head of onshore Development at Statkraft UK said.
“We are actively seeking further investment opportunities in the UK renewables sector, an attractive market for investments,” Shoshani added.
In addition to 500MW of onshore and offshore projects already in service, EDF Energy Renewables has over 1000MW of onshore renewables projects in development together with a 970MW offshore wind farm project currently under development, Navitus Bay, a 50-50 Joint Venture between Eneco Wind UK Ltd and EDF Energy.
