Aberdeen’s hydrogen buses made a guest appearance at this year’s All-Energy conference.
The four zero-emissions buses, operated by First Group and Stagecoach, are part of a £20million project aimed at creating a hydrogen economy in the city.
It is set to deliver a hydrogen infrastructure in Aberdeen in 2014, which will include the production of hydrogen from a 1MW electrolyser. The fleet will play a vital role in establishing Scotland’s first commercial scale hydrogen refuelling system, based in the Kittybrewster area.
But Gordon McIntosh, director of enterprise, planning and infrastructure at Aberdeen City Council, said the fleet is just the first step in a wider hydrogen agenda. Mr McIntosh said the green-energy drive could see all of the public transport, council vehicles and even city taxis switch to the alternative fuel.
