Government delegates from across the Commonwealth are set to discuss sustainable energy issues at a first of kind event.
The first Commonwealth Sustainable Energy Conference, organised jointly with African Forum Scotland and the University of Aberdeen, will gather Commonwealth Government Ministers and High Commissioners from Cameroon, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda as well as delegates from Commonwealth Universities, NGOs and the oil and gas industry at the University of Strathclyde’s Barony Conference facility on Tuesday, July 22.
The day-long event will examine energy case studies from Malawi and Kenya and include a speech on energy inequity in Scotland from the chair of the Scottish Fuel Poverty Forum, Professor David Sigsworth.
“Sustainable energy and the ending of fuel poverty is vital to economic stability and prosperity around the world and is a particularly important issue for countries across Africa,” said Beltus Ojong, chief executive of African Forum Scotland.
“This conference will highlight the challenges and suggest solutions, based on real experience already gained in Africa through Scotland’s pioneering development work.”
