A 200MW offshore wind project in the German North Sea has closed its first development stage with the installation of the final offshore wind turbine.
The 40-turbine Borkum West II, located approximately 45kilometres north of the island of Borkum, is being developed, constructed and operated by Trianel Windfraftwerk Borkum (TWB), a company owned by 34 municipal utilities from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
The development is the first full scale commercial project to use the Areva M5000 wind turbines and is set to generate 750GW annually once operational.
The project will now enter the commissioning phase, expected to be completed in early 2015.
