Aberdeenshire energy services firm 3sun Group has won an engineering contract for the completion of Humber Gateway offshore windfarm turbines.
The contract with MHI Vestas Offshore – a recently established joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Vestas – sets out the provision of technicians for the offshore mechanical and electrical completion of 73 3MW wind turbines.
The work off the coast of North East Yorkshire will take place from bases at Grimsby over a 14-week period. This is MHI Vestas Offshore’s first UK project since the joint venture was formed in September last year.
“We are delighted to be able to work with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind again on their return to the UK offshore market and to win this contract,” said Andrew Elmes, renewables director of 3sun Group.
“It is hoped that this project will help us forge an excellent relationship with MHI Vestas.
“We have over 13 years’ experience of offshore wind project work in the UK and abroad and we look forward to sharing this on the Humber Gateway project; using the professionalism and expertise of our technicians to support the MHI Vestas team.”
Successful installation of the first Humber Gateway turbine was completed on July 29 and the project is due to be completed in spring 2015.
The project adds to 3sun’s portfolio of major UK wind projects, including Griffin Forest, Greater Gabbard and London Array, currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
The firm also has a contract to install a prototype model of the 7 MW Mitsubishi Sea Angel offshore turbine, at the SSE test site in Hunterston, which is expected to get underway in autumn.
