A construction guide to support the delivery of offshore renewable energy products has been published by two key industry bodies.
The Crown Estate and Energy Institute have produced the document to assist developers and the supply chain in the planning and construction of offshore renewable energy projects. With a particular focus on offshore wind farms in the UK, it is hoped the handbook will reduce risk and encourage safe and efficient offshore operations.
With the perpetual expansion of the offshore wind industry, the size and complexity of projects has increased and so are often located further offshore. The manual will address key health and safety issues, enhance dialogue between contractors ans sub-contractors, provide auditing information as well as act as a reference to applicable UK regulations.
Huub den Rooijen, head of offshore wind at The Crown Estate, said: “This guideline for offshore renewable construction vessels is a great example of how the sector can work together, where appropriate, to help bring down costs through ensuring that health and safety strategies are fully integrated into the life cycle of projects from the outset and delivering technically and commercially successful projects.”
The guide follows on from the publication ‘Guidance for offshore renewable energy developers’ published by RenewableUK in January 2012.
