The Southern Ute Indian tribe has struck a deal to build a solar plant powerful enough to support 10 tribal buildings on its Colorado reservation.
The tribe will work with the La Plata Electrica Association on the project.
The deal enables the tribe to cash in its $1.5million Department of Energy grant. It originally had until the end of the year to find a suitable project to use it on. The tribe has since agreed an extension in a bid to batter out the final details. The grant will cover half of the scheme’s costs.
Site plans must now pass an engineering review.
