STUDENTS at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen have been given the chance to design trophies for awards recognising success in the oil and gas industry.
The honours presented at the Offshore Achievement Awards next year will be created by one of 23 students in the third year of a 3D design course at Gray’s School of Art.
The young designers have been set the challenge by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen section, which is organising the awards.
Two designs will be selected to be presented during the ceremony on Thursday, March 15.
One set of trophies will be given to the eight winning companies, while the other will be used for the two individual awards: lifetime achievement and young professional.
SPE board member Ian Phillips said: “Two of the aims of the awards are to encourage innovation and ensure we keep attracting new talent to the industry.
“Having students from Gray’s School of Art involved provides an excellent fit with our aims as we are certain they will bring fresh ideas and new approaches, creating trophies that the winners will be proud to receive.”
Entries for the awards, which will be held at the Ardoe House Hotel, near Aberdeen, must be submitted by Monday, December 19.
