NEW graduates at engineering and project management firm Amec have been introduced to the drivers of the FTSE100 firm through a collaboration with Cranfield School of Management.
Amec, which has taken on some 70 graduates in its UK oil and gas business over the past year, brought in Cranfield’s centre for customised executive development for a two-day business simulation workshop.
Its aim was to raise new graduates’ awareness of the business environment; the market forces that influence the decision-making process of a FTSE100 company, as well as exploring team and individual behaviours.
It was also hoped that the new entrants could apply the learning in their day-to-day work and understand the drivers affecting Amec and its customers.
John Pearson, managing director of Amec’s Europe and west Africa business, said: “Graduates are vital to the future of Amec and the energy industry.
“The Cranfield business simulation is an opportunity to ensure our new graduates understand our core values and behaviours at an early stage in their career.
“We recognise that recruiting and retaining talented people, who share our vision and values, is vital to ensuring the ongoing success and sustainability of our business.”
The 70 new graduates in the firm was on top of more than 500 people the company has in formal development programmes in the UK, including graduates, trainees and industrial placements.
The firm said is was continually looking to inject new ideas and energy into its graduate development programme and that this required major investment and commitment.
