Two Scottish oil service companies announced foreign expansions yesterday.
Aberdeen oil and gas technology firm Petrotechnics said it was eyeing new business in the Middle East after opening an office in Saudi Arabia.
It added: “The move is a significant milestone in the company’s growth and will allow it to significantly build its business in the region.”
The firm said its website-based Sentinel PRO management technology had already been deployed and was operational at multiple sites in the gulf as part of a deal with a US oil major.
It is hoped the new regional office in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, will provide Petro-technics with foundations for more business success across the Middle East.
The move also gives it direct access to the Saudi market as a registered foreign investor. Zaid al Shaddadi has been appointed to head up the new office.
Executive vice-president Iain Mackay said: “The Middle East offers a highly promising market and well developed supporting infrastructure.
“We have already undertaken a number of contracts in the region, but there is tremendous scope for us to do more.
“The opening of the new office is part of our aggressive growth strategy to scale our presence worldwide.”
Petrotechnics – launched in 1989 – says its technology can improve frontline work execution for oil and gas projects worldwide.
Its Sentinel PRO system is used at 280 sites in 20 countries, helping more than 50,000 users.
Petrotechnics says it already has deals with six out of the top 10 global oil and gas majors plus a market share of more than 85% in the UK North Sea.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen oilfield service company Expro revealed the establishment of a new operating base in Newfoundland, Canada.
Construction is expected to be completed in October, with the site due to open in November.
Carl Cooper, frontier division manager for North America, said: “Expro Canada has experienced strong growth in the past few years, and the eastern Canadian offshore is a critical part of this success as well as its future growth.
“Enabling this expected growth requires a purpose-built home from which our team can continue to provide world class equipment and services to the expanding industry.”
Expro’s new base will accommodate a team of 30 people, with the majority of them local employees.
