Intertek said yesterday it had won more than £5million of contracts at home and abroad for oil and gas technical inspection, training and staffing through its Moody operation based in Aberdeen.
The group, a worldwide provider of quality and safety services, bought Moody International last year in a £450million deal.
Raymond Pirie, vice-president for Intertek’s global upstream business, said: “Following the high-profile acquisition of Moody International last year and successful integration, it is tremendous to see this success in securing international contracts and the growing demand for technical inspection, training and staffing services from the energy industry. We are creating a centre of excellence in Aberdeen and expect further growth in Intertek’s energy services in 2012.”
Scott McInnes, the group’s industry service regional manager for the North Sea, said: “Our recent business growth and development highlights the recognition of Intertek Moody’s combined service offerings and capabilities.
“An extended geographic footprint, expanded portfolio of services and international network of staff that combines Moody and Intertek’s respective strengths means we can better support clients’ needs locally and globally.”
The new Intertek Moody contracts include training, systems certification, technical inspection and staffing services for oil and gas operators and service companies operating in the North Sea and abroad.
More than £4million of the deals are for UK and Norway. The team is providing technical inspection, expediting and staffing services during pre-procurement auditing, onsite testing and compliance and offshore operational support in mobilisation of temporary equipment.
A further £1million of contracts have been secured through consulting and training services, including two major wins in Russia and a worldwide contract in safety leadership and culture change being delivered on ships in Europe, the US and Asia.
Intertek is investing £15million in new Aberdeen headquarters for its energy service and Intertek Moody’s teams are among the first to move to the new premises.
The group expects to have 160 staff based at the centre on the Energy Park in Bridge of Don by June.
More than £4.5million is being invested in latest laboratories along with research and development, testing and training facilities.
Intertek is a FTSE 100 company and employs more than 30,000 people in 100 countries.
