North-east students have been named among the recipients of a £140,000 scholarship scheme.
Young people from Robert Gordon University and Banff and Buchan College benefited from the initiative, run by design and engineering firm Atkins. Each student receives up to £2,000 a year until they graduate under the scheme, which now involves 16 young engineers in Scotland.
Among this year’s scholars is Petra Kosova, 22, who studies management and human resources at RGU.
She said: “I am beginning to think about the future and how I can appeal to potential employers, and this scheme is providing me with the support to get that much-needed step ahead of the competition.”
Steve Fogg, managing director of Atkins in Aberdeen, said the firm launched the initiative three years ago to help tackle the skills shortage in the industry.
