The Society of Petroleum Engineer’s Aberdeen section has presented a total of £15,000 to students in Scotland in its annual round of bursary awards.
The bursaries were given to 23 students from Aberdeen, Dundee, Heriot-Watt and the Robert Gordon universities currently studying courses linked to the oil and gas industry including petroleum engineering, oil and gas accounting and international oil and gas management.
Among the students who received the bursaries were Abayomi Obisesan, Suryansh Sinha, Simon Fox and Radhakrishnan Puthiyedath, who were presented with the top awards of £2,500 at SPE Aberdeen’s annual awards ceremony held at Satrosphere.
A further 15 students were also presented with awards of £250 to help with covering the costs of their courses.
o The University of Aberdeen chapter of the Society of Professional Engineers was presented with the 2012 Aberdeen Sector award for Outstanding Student Chapter for showing exceptional merit and an admirable level of activity.
Representatives of the chapter were presented with their award at the annual awards event by SPE International president Dr Ganesh Thakur.
This year the Chapter have managed to establish excellent relationship with other student chapters in Scotland and Europe as well as organising 10 technical presentations and the First Student Conference, which will take place in October.
