An Aberdeen training firm has experienced a large increase in school leavers signing up to one of its most popular courses.
ITCA, based in the city’s York Street, this week welcomed 12 new recruits to its Get Ready for Work course, which is double the amount of learners compared with numbers last June.
The training centre is one of the largest engineering apprenticeship training facilities in Scotland specialising in the welding, fabrication and mechanical engineering sectors.
The Get Ready for Work course, which is popular with school leavers, is a 26-week course focussing on core employability skills including attendance, time-keeping and career planning, as well as vocational skills.
The full-time course has started earlier this year in an effort to increase the chances of employment during the 26 weeks.
Following the training, the learners will then seek employment within the welding or engineering sectors with businesses that support the modern apprenticeship scheme. This will allow the teenagers to further increase their practical skills learning in a workplace environment.
ITCA managing director June Jones said: “It’s great to see more youngsters through the centre doors. The Get Ready for Work course offers the skills that are needed in order to prepare the learners for the workplace.
“From learning how to conduct themselves in the workplace to the more practical skills in a workshop environment, the course is an invaluable tool for increasing their employability. All the learners this year are very eager to secure employment to allow them to move forward with a modern apprenticeship.”
ITCA offers a range of apprenticeship courses and works with many firms across the north-east to provide apprenticeship training for young employees.
