North-east school students will be going through to the Scottish Enterprising Mathematics final later this year after winning the regional heats.
Mearns Academy won for Aberdeenshire and Northfield Academy for Aberdeen in the north-east heat of the Enterprising Mathematics competition.
It saw them go through a full day of challenges, including team, speed, Swiss and relay contests, all involving and testing their maths skills in different ways.
The event, held annually, was open to maths pupils aged 12-14 and was supported by Total.
Brenda Harden, faculty head of maths and ICT at Northfield Academy said: “We are very grateful to Total for their support of the north-east’s Enterprising Mathematics competition.
“The event is an excellent opportunity for pupils to work together as a team competing against other academies by spending a day doing maths activities and helping to enhance and improve their problem solving skills.”
The following academies took part: Banchory, Banff, Cults, Dyce, Ellon, Fraserburgh, Gordon schools Huntly, Harlaw, Hazlehead, Inverurie, Mackie, Mearns, Meldrum, Northfield, Portlethen, Turriff and Westhill.
