Energy service giant Petrofac said yesterday it had welcomed its largest intake of graduates in Aberdeen.
The firm has recruited 31 young people at its Granite City operation in 2012, nearly twice last year’s figure. They have all joined its offshore projects and operations (OPO) division.
Petrofac said its north-east recruitment programme was part of a worldwide scheme; the company took on nearly 150 graduates across its global businesses last year.
Stewart Brown, a chemical engineering graduate, is among the latest intake.
He said: “I was attracted to Petrofac’s graduate programme because of the company’s reputation in the industry.
“It also offered a wealth of opportunities, including the rotation around assets and departments which I felt would give me a well-rounded experience and essentially make me a better engineer.
“The opportunity to gain experience from senior technical personnel, work offshore and achieve chartership is also something I am excited about.”
Kevin Higgins, vice-president for human resources for Petrofac’s OPO business, said: “Here at Petrofac we absolutely understand the need to develop and retain bright and innovative graduates.
“Our graduate programme is a major contributor to our long-term success.
“It is testament to the ambitious growth plans of the company that our graduate programme has developed rapidly, with the involvement of many talented and dedicated staff across our business.”
