Nearly 200 oil and gas leaders visited the Aberdeen base of Aker Solutions yesterday to learn more about its new technology.
The oilfield service group hosted the open day at its Dyce offices for customers, contractors and suppliers.
As well as finding out about Aker’s new products, guests also discussed the importance of reliable technology in growing the subsea sector, with talks from representatives of operators Shell and Statoil.
Matt Corbin, managing director of Aker Solutions’ subsea business in the UK, said: “One of the prime objectives of the day was to engage with industry counterparts on how technology needs to keep developing to support the burgeoning growth of our sector.
“There have been enormous technical strides taken in recent years, paving the way for exploration and production work in ever-deeper waters and more challenging environments, with an increased focus on maximising system reliability and reserve recovery.
“It is vital that we maintain that momentum and continue to be creative and innovative in our approach to continuously develop new technologies, services and products.”
Aker’s UK well-intervention business, formerly known as Aker Qserv, has reported a rise in turnover.
Accounts just published by Companies House reveal the business, which has now adopted the Aker Solutions brand, turned over £100.4million last year, up from £81.5million in the previous year. Profits dropped however, with the operating surplus falling 38% to £7million and pre-tax figure down 42% to £5.6million.
