GDF Suez E&P UK is to sponsor a course at Aberdeen University to help further oil and gas education.
Some £40,000 of funding from the firm will enable the university’s operations geology short course to run for three years.
The course is core to the curriculum in the exploHUB MSc in Hydrocarbon Exploration and the MSc in Integrated Petroleum Geology.
It has been run for the past three years, also with support from GDF SUEZ E&P UK.
Stuart Archer, director of exploHUB, said: “With there being so many specialised aspects of the oil industry, we need funding to allow us to bring in the industry-recognised experts to deliver courses such as operations geology.”
The exploHUB training centre at the university focuses solely on hydrocarbon exploration.
In partnership with the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain, it is a more practically-focused, industry-facing MSc for oil company employees wishing to continue their professional development.
