An Aberdeen student aiming for an offshore career has been named apprentice of the year by energy skills body Opito.
Scott Stage, 24, an apprentice on the upstream oil and gas industry technician training scheme, was presented with the award at a ceremony yesterday.
Mr Stage, from Aberdeen but who is studying instrument and control maintenance at Edinburgh College, said he was very proud to have won, adding: “My brother had previously taken part in the apprenticeship and is now working in the industry.
“My ultimate aim is to be an offshore installation manager and while it might be quite a few years off, this has absolutely been the best start I could have hoped for in my career.”
Opito managing director Larraine Boorman said: “Scott is a worthy winner who strives to do his best at every opportunity.”
Mr Stage will start the second phase of his apprenticeship next year, when he will receive on-the-job training.
