Formula racing can be a solution to the growing skills shortage in the energy sector, believes an industry consultancy.
Aberdeen University’s TAU Racing Team for the fifth consecutive year is due to compete in this year’s Formula Student event at Silversone this July.
The team of student engineers and project coordinators will release their fifth car, TAU-13, later in June and ADIL, which has backed the team, believes the skills learned through developing and making the cars will help with students’ progression into the energy industry.
“What we have seen with Team Aberdeen University is that there is a very high calibre of students coming through the schools and that in itself is promising for the future,” said Mark Fotheringham, deputy general manager of developments for ADIL.
“The skills’ gap is enormous and any contributory factor to addressing that is got to be positive,” he added.
