Talisman Sinopec Energy continued its support for the next generation of energy industry professionals as it unveiled the latest recipients of its scholarship programme last night.
Nine north-east students were awarded scholarships by the Canadian and Chinese oil company. The students, from Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon University, will receive funding and support from the company to help them complete their studies.
Since the scheme’s launch in 2006, the company has invested more than £1million in supporting the next generation.
“We are proud of our scholarship programme and of our strong partnership with both universities,” said chief executive Geoff Holmes. “We are in the business of unlocking the North Sea’s potential and we will continue to support future generations of energy industry professionals.”
Aberdeen had a wealth of world-leading expertise in oil and gas on its door step, said Mr Holmes.
John Scrimgeour, head of the Energy Institute at Aberdeen University said scholarships encouraged students to come and study courses which have been difficult to attract students to in the past.
“It’s great to see young people want to study these difficult subjects,” said Mr Scrimgeour. “Students will benefit from the association with Talisman.”
