The Aberdeen section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has launched its latest student bursaries call covering the academic year 2013-14.
There are 20 awards up for grabs and the total value of the bursaries is up to £20,000. They comprise five bursaries of £2,500 each and up to 15 of £500 each.
Even the smaller ones are not to be sneezed at, given the state of the UK economy, notwithstanding Aberdeen’s relative prosperity.
The competition is open to full-time post-graduate and under-graduate students studying oil and gas industry related courses from the following five universities registered under SPE Aberdeen Section.
o University of Aberdeen
o Robert Gordon University
o University of Dundee
o Heriot-Watt University
o University of Strathclyde.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
o That they are on a course of study that is directly relevant to the industry
o A clear intention/commitment to work in the sector
o Academic merit
o Active involvement in the SPE
More information, eligibility details and application form can be downloaded by visiting SPE Aberdeen Section webpage.
It is important to note that documentation must be electronically completed, not handwritten.
This paperwork obviously asks for relevant information to enable the selection committee to come to award decisions.
The committee may also contact your university for further information.
All applications will be reviewed and awards will be recommended to the SPE Aberdeen board by the section student development committee whose chair, Shankar Bhukya, warns that the closing date for applications is December 13.
The bursary results will be notified to successful applicants in January.
