Sentinel Marine has been awarded a contract for a new emergency vessel for the Mariner field.
The five-year deal with Statoil will enable the Aberdeen-based industry support firm to provide a new emergency response and rescue ship on the Mariner field.
The 65m ship, Mariner Sentinel, will be specially built for Statoil to assist with firefighting, oil spill response and tanker capabilities.
Rory Deans, chief executive of Sentinel, said the award validated the company’s belief in providing modern vessels for the industry.
The managing director of Statoil UK, Gunnar Brievik, added: “The emergency and rescue vessel plays a key role in our safety and emergency preparedness plan.
“Mariner Sentinel will carry mechanical oil spill response equipment and contribute to a strengthening of the emergency preparedness capacity also on a regional basis.”
Mariner Sentinel is expected to be delivered early in 2017.
From the summer of 2016 and until the new vessel is ready for operation, Sentinel Marine will provide another response unit for emergency cover on Mariner.
