An Aberdeen-based not-for-profit organisation aims to continue to support young people to pursue a career in engineering through a series of events taking place in 2016.
AFBE-UK (Association for BME Engineers) encourages young people, particularly those of black and minority ethnic (BME) origin, to join the profession.
The group works with a number of industry-recognised professional institutions to carry out seminars, mentoring programmes and conferences providing an overview of various aspects affecting the oil and gas industry.
AFBE-UK’s Scottish chapter plans to host its full range of events including its Transition and NextGen initiatives, as well as its headline event, a Gala Dinner held at the Marcliffe in November.
Previous speakers at AFBE-UK Gala Dinner events include include Fergus Ewing MSP, Scottish Government Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism and Bob Keiller.
The organisation runs such programmes to try and bridge the gap between education and employment within the Engineering industry.
Since 2012, more than 300 students and young people have benefited from initiatives ran by AFBE-UK’s Scottish chapter in Aberdeen.
The organisations Transition and NextGen programmes aims to help the next generation of engineering professionals develop the right skills and experience to benefit the industry.
