Aker Solutions wins first order for offshore work in Mexico
Aker Solutions has won its first order for work in offshore Mexico. The company secured the deal from Saipem to supply umbilicals for the Pemex-operated Lakach deepwater natural gas field. Aker will deliver electro-hydraulic steel tube umbilicals of about 73 kilometres, which will help connect Mexico’s first subsea gas development to onshore processing facilities.

Aker Solutions has delivered a key component for the Subsea Containment Assembly (SCA) which is being crafted by the Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC). The SCA is designed to contain well control incidents by connecting and creating seals which prevent oil leaks.

Aker Solutions wins hook-up contract for Mariner development
Aker Solutions has secured a £120million contract for work on the Mariner oilfield development in the UK North Sea. The agreement will see the company provide engineering, construction and commissioning services during the development’s hook-up phase. Aker will carry out the work on behalf of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering on the development. The deal comes in addition to a five-year maintenance and modification service contract awarded by Statoil in June.
Christmas cancelled for oil firm workers
A leading oil and gas company has cancelled Christmas parties for thousands of workers – because bosses fear upsetting colleagues who are losing their jobs. Aker Solutions, which employs more than 2,000 people in Aberdeen, called a halt to its annual festive celebrations to show “sympathy” with hundreds of staff in Norway who have been affected by cutbacks. The company is shedding posts in Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund, Kristiansund and Trondheim, but not in Aberdeen. Staff based in the north-east were reported to be upset at the decision to ditch the festivities. The oil and gas services firm has gone all-out in recent years to celebrate the festive season, hiring specialist party planners to run a family fun day at Ardoe House Hotel.
