Global Energy Group continues diversification
Global Energy Group has continued its diversification strategy with the acquisition of a metals specialist in the nuclear industry. The Inverness and Aberdeen-based energy service firm snapped up Langfields, a nickel alloy and titanium fabrication business that also serves the pharmaceutical, chemical, offshore, marine and defence industries. The Salford-based firm, wholly owned by Robert Dean, 60, has a pedigree dating back to 1908 when it was involved in the production of mild steel, copper and brass components. Iain MacGregor, Global’s chief executive, said the deal “brings us into more non-oil and gas work, specifically nuclear”. He added: “I think it's important for companies in the oilfield services sector to diversify their risks in the current climate. This is why both of our last two acquisitions have been non oil and gas.”
Global Energy Group prepares for change in offshore wind sector
Global Energy Group is preparing to unveil over 2,000 feet of fresh quay at its base in Nigg Bay as ports all along the east coast get ready for a step-change in the offshore wind sector. Steve Thompson, business development director at Global, will tell Scotland’s largest offshore wind conference in Aberdeen on Tuesday [27 JANUARY] that the extra quayside space will provide services for the renewables industry. Global bought the former oil rig yard at Nigg Bay on the Cromarty Firth in 2011 and has signed a memorandum of understanding with Moray Offshore Renewables, which plans to erect wind turbines in the firth.
JPM energy boss joins Wood Group board
The vice-chairman of financial service firm JPMorgan's global energy group will become a non-executive director of Wood Group on August 1. Jeremy Wilson will also join the board's nomination committee.
