Geng North is thought to hold around 5 trillion cubic feet of gas and 400 million barrels of condensate. Eni sees the Kutei Basin becoming a “new world class gas hub”.
Indonesia has an ambitious target to almost double natural gas production from 6.5 billion cubic feet per day (cf/d) to 12 billion cf/d by 2030. Hitting that goal means giant undeveloped gas projects, such as Inpex’s Masela and Chevron’s IDD, must proceed rapidly.
SKK Migas, Indonesia’s upstream regulator, expects Eni to takeover Chevron’s giant Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) during the first quarter 2021. If the move comes to pass, expect other potential buyers, that could include Pertamina, Sinopec, Neptune Energy and Saka Energi, to be in the new IDD mix.
