Chevron completes appraisal of “significant” discovery in Gulf of Mexico
Oil major Chevron said it has made a “significant discovery” after the appraisal of the Anchor discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. The original discovery well, which is located 140 miles off the coast of Louisiana, was drilled in late last year to a depth of 33,750feet and encountered 690feet of net oil pay. The appraisal drilling began in June this year and Chevron said complete appraisal of the field will require further delineation wells and technical studies.
Vantage Drilling to make headcount reductions in Gulf of Mexico
Vantage Drilling said its subsidiary will be reducing it headcount at a site in the Gulf of Mexico in a bid to streamline costs. The company said around 135 employees faced losing their jobs with the first round of cuts already started.
Workers killed in explosion at Louisiana gas plant
Three people have died while two others have been seriously injured after an explosion at a natural gas plant in Louisiana. The fatally injured were contractors working at the Williams Partners facility in the town of Gibson which is around 60 miles from New Orleans. The two seriously injured are being treated at nearby hospitals following the explosion.
Amec Foster Wheeler wins Louisiana methanol contract
Amec Foster Wheeler has won a contract from Yuhang Chemical Inc (YCI) for its first major project in the US. The subsidiary of Shandong Yuhuang company has planned a 1.7million tons per year world-scale methanol on the Mississippi River in Louisiana. The contract will see Amec Foster Wheeler provide engineering, project management, procurement and early construction services.

Petsec begins drilling in Louisiana
Petsec Energy has started drilling a well at its West Crab Lake exploration gas project in Louisiana. Drilling began earlier this week and will be drilled to a true vertical depth of 12,500 to test multiple Lower Miocene age Marg and Discorbis sand reservoirs in a fault closure syncline. The company has a 20% non-operating working interest (15.5% net revenue interest) in the well before payout.

Petroquest has made a discovery at its Thunder Bayou prospect in Louisiana. The company said it logged 490 gross feet of high quality pay within the primary Cris R2 objective. Petroquest has a 50% working interest and 37% net revenue interest in the well.
Apache sells off $1.4billion of assets in Louisiana and Anadarko Basin
Apache has agreed to sell off assets in Louisiana and the Anadarko Basin for $1.4billion in two separate transactions. The company said the first deal will involve the sale of 90,000 net acres of mature fields in Southern Louisiana. The mature fields, which it said were characterised by high decline rates and short reserve lives, produced 21,000 BOE (Barrels of Oil Equivalent) per day.
Technip wins Louisiana contract
Technip has been awarded an engineering and procurement contract for a chemical ethylene plant expansion in Louisiana. The award will see the French company provide its services to expand the recovery section of Westlake’s Petro 1 ethylene plant at its complex in Sulphur. Technip’s operating centre in Houston will execute the project with support from the group’s office in Mumbai.
