Offshore wind is the energy source on which much of the world’s transition depends, but it comes with its own set of challenges, particularly in ensuring the safety of personnel.
The global offshore wind construction vessel fleet count has been boosted by the recent delivery of two jack-ups (WTIVs) built by Chinese group Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) for conglomerate China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).
The global windfarm construction vessel (WTIV) fleet now stands at around 50, mostly Chinese-owned vessels, with at least a further 11 on order and four more believed close to FID (final investment decision).
