A survivor of a fire at the Guneshli field in Azerbaijan has told how workers were stranded on a lifeboat for 18 hours while they waited to be rescued. Malakhat Aliyeva told reporters strong winds had made it challenging for rescuers to approach the lifeboat, which had around 26 people on board. One person has been confirmed dead, while another 29 workers are missing, following the fire off the cost of Azerbaijan.

That’s extremely important for us.”

ACE Winches said it has completed an order for Statoil for their subsea line modification project designed for use on the Troll B platform offshore Norway. The Norwegian operator had required a rental Pull in Winch System including wire rope and HPU. The rental package supplied incorporated a compact design and weight optimized linear winch, designed for use in land based shore pulls and offshore wire rope deployment and recovery operations.
Statoil has been given a deadline by the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) in Norway over a number of non-conformities and improvement points on the Heidmal gas processing platform in the North Sea. Petrofac has been issued an improvement notice after a gas leak went undetected on a North Sea platform. The incident is understood to have happened in March on the Kittiwake platform, which is located 160km from Aberdeen. It is understood a worker alerted staff to the leak 84 minutes after it had first begun and production was immediately halted.
Fugro has delivered a bespoke structural monitoring system for Exxon Neftegas to help monitor the structural integrity of its Berkut oil platform. The site, in the Arkutun Dagi field, is one of the world’s largest floatover platforms and has been designed so that topsides are isolated from the base using FPB (friction pendulum bearings). Fugro was commissioned to provide an integrated system which would be able to both monitor the seismic response of the platform and the performance of FPB’s.

Pemex has denied reports one of its platforms had collapsed following a fire which killed four people. The state-owned Mexican company published an image taken of the Abkatun Permanente platform in the Bay of Campeche less than 24 hours after the incident which showed the extent of the damge caused. It comes after photos appeared on social media reporting to show the platform had collapsed following the blaze.
Norwegian Energy Company ASA (Noreco) has agreed to transfer its 30% ownership in PL484 to North Energy ASA (North). The transfer of the asset in the Norwegian sea is subject to government approval. A spokesman for the company said an agreement had been created under the condition for Noreco to re-enter the licence with a reduced share of the equity in the future.
An offshore worker has been airlifted to hospital after being hit on the head by a falling object. The 57-year-old man was working on the Murchison platform, about 123 miles north-east of Shetland, when he was reportedly hit on the head by a falling pipe or hose. Shetland Coastguard sent a rescue helicopter to the platform, and he was airlifted to Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.
BP has been denied a request by Norway’s oil safety watchdog to extend the lifetime of the QP platform at the Valhall field. The platform provides living quarters for workers however safety concerns have been raised by the PSA.
Workers are being evacuated from a North Sea platform as a precaution after a boat which caught fire began drifting towards its vicinity. The Norwegian vessel caught on fire 14 miles away from the Lomond rig. The blaze has since been put out and the crew are safe, but the boat is currently drifting due to unstable weather.
Talisman Sinopec has started transferring workers back to a North Sea platform after it was evacuated ahead of a severe winter storm. Staff had been taken from the installation back to Aberdeen. A spokeswoman said 33 staff were making their way back to the platform, although production has not yet resumed.

The Denmark-registered Parida, which was carrying a cargo of radioactive waste from Scrabster to Antwerp, lost engine power after a fire broke out in one of her funnels at about 8pm on Monday.
Calls have been made for a safety review after a blaze on a cargo ship carrying radioactive waste forced the evacuation of a North Sea oil platform. The Danish ship, MV Parida, suffered a fire in one of its funnels on Tuesday evening and the crew shut down the engines as they tried to carry out repairs.
Heerema-AF Consortium has been awarded a contract to assist with the decommissioning of a North Sea platform. CNR International (CNRI) have signed a contract with the company for the removal and disposal of the Murchison platform.
