OIL and gas services firm Cosalt Offshore has taken the plunge and recruited its first cohort of graduates.
The firm, which provides integrated lifting integrity and lifeboat services to the industry, has taken on two new graduates from Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University.
Rod Buchan, its chief executive, said: “Taking on the first ever graduates in the history of the company is a clear demonstration of our heightened ambition level.
“We are keen to give new entrants a positive start to our industry, teaching them about the values that are inherent to the company and providing them with specific technical training required for our sector.”
Andrew Sutherland, 22 from Aberdeen, has joined as a graduate technical engineer after completing a BEng in Mechanical Engineering earlier this year at RGU.
Michael Phillips, a Business Management honours graduate, has joined as client account coordinator, responsible for liaising with clients, workshops and stores to ensure all are fully up to date on the progress of ongoing work.
Mr Sutherland said: “I’d always wanted to work in the oil and gas industry but had worried that employers would not recognise what I had to offer without having extensive work experience on my CV.
“Cosalt Offshore didn’t see this as a limitation, instead they took the opportunity to train me in company processes and procedures and show me the value of doing things their way.”
