A student from the Robert Gordon University has been awarded with the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ SPE Star Fellowship Award for the North Sea Region for 2012-13.
Graduate William Anthony, who works for the Ministry of Energy in Ghana, is currently on a masters programme in oil and gas engineering at RGU in Aberdeen.
He has been a member of the SPE Aberdeen Section since September 2011 and was an active member of the Ghana section.
He said: “This award will go a long way in supporting me in my research endeavours. I am looking forward to continuing my involvement with the Aberdeen section throughout my future career.”
The Star Fellowship Award will see William receive about £2,500 a year until he graduates.
SPE Aberdeen Section chairman Anthony Onukwu said: “William’s award is great news for both the SPE Aberdeen Section, but also for RGU’s School of Engineering and Aberdeen as a city. It gives us a global platform that lets people see that Aberdeen is a great place to study.”
The Star Fellowship for graduates is in place to support those SPE members pursuing degrees related to the oil and gas industry and in total SPE dedicate more then one million dollars to be awarded through 15 different regions worldwide.
