Dozens of S3 pupils faced the fire of the Dragon’s Den when they went head-to-head with top business leaders last month.
The 13 to 14-year-olds pitted their wits against each other to impress the judges in the Den with presentations on the companies they had spent a week visiting.
The winner was 14-year-old Luke Rodgers who, at the last minute, went from being in a team of three to having to present solo, in front of an audience of over 100 people.
The pupils, who were all from Northfield Academy in Aberdeen, had been taking part in the Your Future in Energy project.
They had all spent a week visiting five companies working with oil and gas – James Jack Cranes, Amec, Atlas, CPS and Stork.
The pupils were just about to make their subject choices and during the week they learnt about all the different jobs they could do and the skills they would need.
Runner-up Caitlin McDonald, 14, said: “I want to be a designer, there is more to it than just drawing.
“You can apply for an apprenticeship or go back to college.”
Fellow pupil, Iona Ferguson said: “There are a lot of jobs to do with oil and gas.
“Women can go offshore and do business trips and mechanical jobs.”
The top prize was awarded to computer-buff Luke by council chief executive Valerie Watt.
