One of Nasa’s leading engineers is to be the guest speaker at next month’s Intelligent Energy conference.
Brian Muirhead, who has been spearheading Nasa’s project aimed at developing a moonbase and exploring Mars, will address delegates at the Society of Petroleum Engineer’s event in Utrecht.
Mr Muirhead, chief engineer with Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will illustrate the techniques which earned him two leadership medals with the space administration.
Oil and gas firms have increasingly turned to the stars in the hunt for new technological advances to improve extraction and production techniques, with the space administration providing support for a number of major firms in recent years.
“It will be tremendously exciting to hear his insights and learn from his experiences as a team builder, technologist, problem solver and culture change innovator,” said SPE events manager Sue Frye.
“The digital world is opening up endless possibilities for the oil and gas industry, and we have the opportunity to balance calculated risk, technology and experience to yield extraordinary success.
“Mr Muirhead has achieved this and we are privileged that he is joining us to set such an aspirational tone for our delegates.”
The conference and exhibition, which runs in the Dutch city from April 1-3, will look at how digital age technologies can help drive efficiency and improvement in the oil and gas industry.
More than 2400 people are expected to attend the event, which will see 80 papers covering subjects from leadership to cyber-security being presented.
