North-east school pupils are being invited to apply for a free week-long taste of what a career in the oil and gas industry is like.
Opito – the skills organisation for oil and gas – has teamed up with Aker Solutions, BP, Nexen, Total, Transocean, Urquhart Partnership, Aberdeen University and the Robert Gordon University as part of the sector’s first structured work experience programme.
Some 100 fourth-year students will spend a day at different industry venues, examining onshore and offshore roles. A graduation ceremony will take place at the end of the week.
Opito skills development director Morven Spalding said: “The students may come into this programme at the start of the week not sure what their options are. But by the time they have completed the work experience, they will understand the breadth and depth of exciting opportunities there are in this industry.”
