The need to simplify data processes in the North Sea was highlighted at an oil and gas innovation day held in Aberdeen this week.
Hosted by SAP upstream specialist Absoft and integrated risk and safety management provider ABS Group, the event focussed on four key challenges facing the industry; safety and compliance, wrenchtime and workforce utilisation; materials and inventory optimisation; and uptime and reliability.
ABS offshore services director, Thomas Petersen and Absoft commercial director, Don Valentine presented at Aberdeen’s Maritime Museum yesterday.
Valentine said: “The main message was that we need to slim down and simplify the data capture process for maintenance technicians and operators offshore. The data captured by this community can have a huge input to securing safe working, production efficiency and asset integrity management.
“Data entry systems need to be more user friendly, similar to the experience of filling out an online form, with no jargon, a limited number of key data fields to enter and guidance available at the touch of a button.
“Traditionally these systems haven’t been the easiest to navigate which can hold up the process of collecting and interpreting critical data. If operators can adopt simpler systems and new technologies, they can increase efficient operations without compromising on safety.”
The event was attended by operations, maintenance and supply chain personnel from operators and service companies in the UK, Netherlands and Norway.
Absoft will be taking the innovation day on the road next year.
